Still Here is an independent reading project. It's a collection of 150 short, blunt pieces — each one about 40 seconds long — written to put ordinary complaints into perspective.
What's in it
The collection runs across six categories: a plain look at what certain salary and housing numbers actually add up to over a lifetime; a plain look at the biology behind why we feel things so intensely; a reminder that being conscious at all is statistically absurd; a look at one specific animal you should be relieved not to be; a set of motivational pieces; and a handful of loose thoughts that didn't fit anywhere else.
Who makes it
It's written and maintained by one person. There's no company behind it, no funding, and no political affiliation. Nothing on this site is financial, medical, or psychological advice — it's opinion and arithmetic, presented as such.
Why it exists
Because the interesting question isn't whether life is hard. It is, for almost everyone. The interesting question is what you do with the fact that you're here at all, which is a temporary condition nobody asked for and nobody gets to keep.
How it's paid for
The site is free and has no paywall. It's supported by advertising and by voluntary donations. Advertising helps cover hosting and the time it takes to write and maintain the collection.
